Yep. That was a ridiculous statement, Steve. 99% of all high sticking penalties are accidental and they are still penalties.
Anyway, before the season started most Ducks fans were wondering what the team was going to do with all of the forwards that were NHL ready. Now we can see what Bob Murray's plan was, anticipate a rash of injuries. Teemu's injury opens up a spot for Dustin Penner, who should be ready for the Bruins game.
Also, what the hell were the Capitals thinking in dumping Mathieu Perrault? How high is that first rounder from Ottawa going to be? What the hell happened to Bryan Allen? The scorn of Ducks fans last year has turned into a capable defender. What are the Ducks going to do with Luca Sbisa and/or Sheldon Souray when they return. Souray will definitely help the PP but can anyone honestly say they'd rather have Sbisa playing instead of Vatanen or Lindholm? |

I actually would kind of like to hear from a ref about this one, maybe Stewart will blog, or Fraser at TSN. Doesn't seem like Schenn should be responsible in this situation. Anaheim's player Etem has his hand on Schenn's stick and is the one pushing/controlling it which results in Selanne getting high-sticked. When another play has as many hands on your stick as you do, not sure you should be solely responsible for what happens. |

Injuries are a problem but if you continue to win, they are "less" of a problem.
Still winning kind of indicates some depth on the team if you ask me. Depth that will be needed later in the cuz the real season starts when the Ducks, Yotes, Sharks, Kings and Nucks start butting heads on a more regular basis. What a nasty bunch of teams. |

That was how I saw it. I am well aware that a player must always be responsible for his stick. In this situation there is a bit of a gray area. Etem was on Schenn like a fly on...stuff. All three players converged and Etem forced Schenn's stick up into Selanne. I think Schenn was trying to avoid wrapping up Etem and being penalized. I don't know, like I said..it's a gray area.

From the replays I've seen, it seems like Etem actually pushes/swings the stick into his face. Sucks cause Teemu didn't get to finish and now he'll miss a portion of his farewell tour. But I actually don't know what Schenn could have done when Etem was the one directing it. |

Even if Etem checks a player into Selanne it's still high sticking. It happens to the Ducks all the time (Bryan Allen a few games ago).
But why do refs always miss high sticking calls when they go against the ducks??? Two in this game alone which would have both double minors and countless others in the past few seasons. Officiating needs to get its act together. |

Sucks that Teemu is hurt and will miss a couple weeks.
On the other hand if you accidentally clip someone in the head with your stick, you get called for high sticking errant or not - it should have been called resulting in a 4 minute PP, with that being said Ducks are better 5 on 5 and with the way special teams are going I don't want them on the power play lol |

Checking a player into someone is completely different from taking your hand off of your own stick, putting it on another players, then swinging that other players stick.
I do agree that officiating needs work. |

Hope he comes back soon. I'm not a fan of the Ducks but as a fan of hockey you have to respect how he approaches the game. He is a class act. |

Are you saying that if you are driving down the street legally and someone comes along and T-bones you into another car it's your fault? That's kind of what happens here. Etem 'directs' Schenn's stick into Selanne's face, no penalty. This is different then why a player lifts another players stick and that stick strikes an opponent, that is reckless(lack of) control of their stick, penalty.
People need to stop trying to use penalties as an advantage. It seems the whole process of a penalty has been lost, they are intended as a deterrent to not perform the illegal act, not as a way of giving an opponent an advantage.
There are plenty of missed calls every game ( for both teams ) and in the spirit of the sport I applaud it when the offense has no bearing on the actual play or possible injury to a player. |

That's actually exactly what I'm saying. I've seen both situations called against the Ducks recently. And it's funny that you call it an advantage since our 8% PP rate begs to differ |
